Designing with AI

In early 2026 I completely pivoted my design process from using Figma, Figjam, Google Docs, Confluence pages, and more to one that starts and ends with Cursor, Claude, and Glean. I not only used AI for my own design projects but I also started building tools for my team to use. Here are some examples.

Fully-integrated Cursor process

In the last week I was one of the heaviest power users of Cursor across my whole company. I've been creating end-to-end prototypes to communicate concepts, test ideas with customers, and demo designs to stakeholders.

Cursor skill

Say "sandbox this" and my Cursor skill maps a cursor design to our design-system components. It produces a translation report showing valid mappings vs. custom elements. The say "generate" to sandbox components with Storybook all using design system imports and tokens instead of hardcoded values.

Design tools

I created design tools like this visual tuning panel to help me communicate and share visual and interaction concepts. Giving others the flexibility to play with design controls helps bridge the communication gap by showing the range of options as opposed to static options.
